Fish Tales

The Kaufman and Peterson gang from Chanhassen, MN sent in this beautiful photo.  They had great fishing and great fun on their recent houseboat vacation aboard the Ozark Queen.  "Thanks for an awesome adventure!"  they wrote.

This gorgeous view is a familiar sight for vacationers at Voyagaire.  A houseboat guest from Fergus Falls, MN snapped this great shot of "the pinch" - a narrow passageway between Crane Lake and Sand Point Lake.  Thanks for sharing this beautiful photo with us!

The Loon Low- Down

Here in beautiful Voyageurs Nat'l Park, one of the animals you can often see is Minnesota's state bird, the loon. One of our recent guests was lucky enough to photograph this one sitting on its nest.  In June and early July, loon chicks can be seen riding on their parents' back. This provides protection from hungry snapping turtles and Northern Pike.

Did You Know?
-A loon's body is over 2 feet long and it has a 5 foot wing span.
-Loons are the only birds to have solid bones (great for diving).
-The average feeding dive for the loon lasts 42 seconds and may be as deep as 240 feet below the surface.
