Fishing thus far for the season

June 3rd, 2009

Fishing has been pretty decent so far this season.  The opener was fantastic, lots of pig Walleye’s, with a good mix of eaters/keepers.  You may have seen the recent Star Trib story from a writer that was in the area over opener.  He reported several fish over 27″.  The Sturgeon have been pretty active as well, wiht a good mix of Muskie too!!  That’s right Muskie!  They have been infiltrating down the Vermillion River over the years and they are really doing well.  Last week I saw two over 42″.  Walleye has slowed a bit, I think they are post spawn.  Cooler nights are keeping the water temp down a bit (mid 50’s) so the Bass are not going crazy yet.  More to come.

Ice coming off!!

April 22nd, 2009

Spring is finally here!!  Ice is starting to come off the lake and it looks as though all should be pretty close to normal.  Water levels are decent and the spring run-off is really moving with the warmer temps.  Crane is open from the Vermillion Gorge all the way to where the Echo River comes into Crane.  We are looking forward to some great fishing action!!
